AOPA Feedback

Accountability
Bonds should be required of all CFOs in the event of our Natural Resources being compromised. If the government is willing to risk these Resources on behalf of all Albertans because of these factory farms, then these operators should be taking the responsibility for the negative consequences. The people of Alberta should not be required to front the bill of these elite few while having none of the benefit and all of the negative consequences.
Ultimately, AOPA is a deeply flawed and unbalanced piece of Legislation. The right to be involved in the process of democracy is fundamental. With this Act and the exclusion of the public and elected bodies to have a voice, it is a direct assault and betrayal on the entitled democratic rights of all Albertans. Small incremental removal of our rights are just as much a threat to democracy as violent upheaval or war. The only difference here, one is quieter and more insidious than the other.
The Provincial government and the NRCB professes to expound the protection of the Environment and transparency and accessibility of process, yet at the same time, ignores any and all concerns for environmental damage to our Natural Resources and denies Albertans and Municipalities the right to voice these concerns. Amendments have been made in the past to AOPA to appease the industry. It is time for this government to make amendments to protect our environment, restore our entitled rights and ultimately ensure the sustainability and economic viability of agriculture in this Province.
