Goals

The Society for Environmentally Responsible Livestock Operations’ objectives are:

  1. To increase public awareness of environmental practices and legislation surrounding livestock operations, including Confined Feeding Operations (CFO’s)
  2. To create and promote the sustainable development of agriculture in the provincial registration and approval process for CFO’s and livestock operations.
  3. To create and promote means of enforcing current livestock and CFO operations.
  4. To promote the voice and rights of landowners adjacent to CFO’s and livestock operations, including those affected by Minimum Distance Separation (MDS)
  5. To promote and address concerns of contamination and depletion of ground and surface water.
  6. To advance environmentally sustainable manure management practices and procedures.
  7. To address health issues in and around CFO’s and livestock operations regarding air, water, and contaminant run-off, use of antibiotics, and health and safety of the employees.
  8. To create an effective vehicle to collect and disseminate information regarding CFO’s and livestock operations to the public.
  9. To educate and inform the public using various sources of mass media including internet technology.
  10. To create a database of expert contacts based on area of expertise and location.
